Juniors
Most clubs are very keen to attract junior golfers
and have current vacancies. Every club in Yorkshire
has a junior development programme, and most offer
group coaching. See

The Golf Foundation
is the leading organisation for grassroots junior
golf development in the UK.
The aims of the organisation are: |
|
- To provide support for golf sessions at schools
and golf facilities so that young people are given
their first introduction to golf
- To encourage young people to take up the game,
develop their playing skills, improve their understanding
of the game and work towards the achievement of
a playing handicap
- To provide competitive opportunities for performance-motivated
youngsters.

Child Protection

80% of Yorkshire golf clubs have a child protection policy in place. Make sure you enquire about this when applying for junior membership. The Children in Golf (CIG) Strategy Group has been formed to produce a child protection policy for golf, across Great Britain and Ireland.
|
The bodies work together to:
- Develop, monitor and review golf’s safeguarding strategy
- Ensure that strategic decisions concerning child protection in golf are managed and communicated throughout the partnership
- Ensure that there is a consistent approach to child protection throughout golf

Parents
As a parent of a budding junior golfer, you want to
encourage your child and need to be comfortable that
they are in safe hands when you are not around. BBC
Sport has launched Academy
Parent, a new initiative launched by the BBC to
drive parents to get involved in their kids' sport.
The Academy Parent website has been set up following
a BBC survey which found that 83% of parents would
like to see their children do more sport and that
99% of parents think that their role is important
in encouraging children to participate in sport or
physical activity. The findings also showed that 55%
of all adults would like advice and information on
how to encourage their child to be active.
