Why Play Golf?
Golf is a unique game for a number of reasons:
- Suitable for players of all ages
- Players of all standards can play together
- You can play alone or in a group
- Unlike sports played on a pitch, court or table,
each course and each round of golf is totally different
from the last
- Golf offers great exercise
- A full round requires a walk of around 4-5 miles
- The golf swing exercises many of the body’s
muscles and moving parts
- Add to this the competitive side of the game,
and you have the recipe for the most infectious
sport in the world!
How to start
- Golf can be an intimidating game for a beginner.
Many budding golfers never get to start the game due
to too many obstacles; not knowing where to go for
advice or lessons and not having anyone else of the
same standard to play with. In the next few sections
we will provide all the information you need to get
started.
The best place to start is the professional (pro)
shop of a local golf club. They can help you with
equipment and give you lessons, individually or in
a group session. See the Yorkshire
Golf Academy section for details of clubs providing
free taster sessions.
