England Golf Partnership –
‘The course ahead’
The England Golf Partnership(1) have mapped out a
long term plan to be the leading golf nation in the
world by the year 2020 by providing more facilities
for participants to ‘Start, Stay and Succeed’.
Yorkshire Golf fully endorses this vision and is
aligned with 6 key targets for improvement:
- Maximising Facilities - Golf is perceived to be
time-consuming and expensive. Innovative solutions
to increase participation and allow greater access
must be found.
- Image – A new marketing effort is needed
to sell ‘Golf is cool’, using role models
in an effort to attract younger golfers. See Juniors Golf
- Introductory Programmes - We must develop market apprpriate schems to introduce people to the game. See Beginners Golf
- Measurement - There is need for benchmarking market research, that is available to all, in order to set key targets for the future - See Yorkshire Golf Benchmarking Service
- The PE Curriculum - As golf has been identified as one of the top 10 sports, the game must strive to be introduced into the school curriculum - See Juniors Golf
- Membership - UK Clubs report around 40,000 vacancies,
with 89% of clubs quoting ‘gaps’ in
their membership. More innovative ideas are required
to encourage non-members to join clubs. See Membership Vacancies
(1) The England Golf Partnership is a combined partnership
of the English Golf Union (EGU), English Ladies Golf
Association (ELGA) & the Professional Golfers
Association (PGA) with the support of the Golf Foundation
& Sport England.
