Strategic Planning
Why have a strategic plan?
It is important for any business to plan for the
future, and a golf club is no different. A plan is
important for a variety of reasons:
- To prioritise developments for the future
- To maximise use of club resources
- To involve members and inform them of the club’s
direction
- To demonstrate what the club can offer to new
members
Short term and long term plans -
One to two years is generally regarded as the optimum
period for a short term strategic plan, whilst a longer
term plan will typically cover three to five years.
Yorkshire Golf can help you develop your strategic
plan, introducing best practice business standards
covering initial brainstorming sessions, analysis
of strengths and weaknesses, prioritisation and an
individual plan for each project.
Yorkshire Golf
Benchmarking Service - How do you compare
with other clubs in the region? Is your club attractive
to prospective members?
Many clubs regularly complete the EGU golf club biannual
membership questionnaire. Yorkshire Golf takes this
a stage further by providing analysis against your
direct local peers. Golf Clubs subscribing to the
YGBS have a reciprocal arrangement to share data.
The YGBS has two levels of membership:
Standard membership: Your club name
and data is protected. In turn, you cannot access
data from other individual clubs. You have access
to all of the aggregated totals of clubs in your region.
Premium membership: By agreeing to
reveal your club name and individual statistics to
other clubs you have access to the equivalent data
from all other clubs with premium membership. i.e.
‘you get out what you put in’.
Members survey
– A key stage in formulating a strategic plan
is to determine the view of the members. Yorkshire
Golf provides an online members questionnaire, focused
on all aspects of the club and course. Accumulated
data is formulated into a detailed report and presentation
summarising all areas and recommending the key areas
where members feel improvements are most needed.
Independent assessment
- Invite the Yorkshire Golf course review team to
play the course and provide a report on all aspects
of the club and course. Summarising the views of a
typical visitor, the detailed course report covers
quality of tees, fairways, greens and bunkers, a general
view of the clubhouse, pro shop, staff and all round
hospitality and provides an overall rating.
Yorkshire course of the month -
Your Yorkshire Golf assessment automatically qualifies
the club for the course of the month. Each month the
review team compare notes and ratings from all assessments
and the course with the highest rating receives the
monthly award.
Effective marketing
- Yorkshire Golf provides focused and affordable local
advertising for golf clubs. By advertising with Yorkshire
Golf you are ensuring that the right audience sees
your advert - local golfers, local companies and visitors
to the county.
Feature courses of the month - In
addition to the Yorkshire course of the month, clubs
can placed a full advertisement in our ‘feature
courses of the month’ section.
