Handicapping

Why have handicapping?
Handicapping is a mechanism that allow players of all standard to compete against each other on a fair and equal basis, one unique aspect that separates golf from many other sports.

What is a handicap?
A players handicap indicates their golf ability relative to other players, the lower the number the better the player.

In individual Stroke Play competitions a players handicap is subtracted from their gross score to produced their competition nett score for comparison with other competitors. For example, a player with a handicap of 14 who scores 86 will have a nett score of 72.

The maximum handicap for men is 28, the maximum for women and juniors is 36.

How to get a handicap
The Unified Handicapping System (UHS) is devised by the Council of National Golf Unions (CONGU). The only way to obtain an official CONGU® handicap is to join a golf club, play three rounds and submit your cards to the club committee.
